After a year of Dr Byakikka, lordosis, sciatica, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, nairobi Hospital, Doloact, MRI and a couple of thousands of shillings, I finally dragged my sorry self out of bed at 5.30-something-am and out into the morning cold for my inaugural 2011 run.
It wasn't without effort, either. It is Jack over at http://therunningwriter.blogspot.com that set me waking up that 'early' and running. It is his sms that ended 'umeanza tizzy?' that worked. I almost lied to him but then running has a way of putting you on the straight and narrow. That, and the fact that my import-colleague Julie has been walking at the Jaffery Academy and coming to psyche me up and gloat over it:-). Not to forget the feeling of loss on Saturday, September 17 as Jack, Mark, Sikuku and GK took on the Ndakaini Hills while I waited back at the car eating bananas, drinking Fanta and water...
Anyway, nothing much to say save for this: I did 28:13.61. Comfortably.
No promises, no goals, I will just run as many mornings as I can get out of bed at 5.30am. The first five or so runs will be 20-30 minutes. I want me no injuries, ah, ah; but I want to go for Stanchart's 21km on October 30 and do 1hr 50min.
Twende kazi.
